SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota State softball's Lindsey Culver and Tori Kniesche have been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Player and Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday. The duo posted impressive performances in the final three doubleheaders of the Jacks' spring break trip to earn the awards.
Culver, the player of the week, went 10-for-21 in six games with 11 RBIs, one home run, one triple and four doubles. She posted a .905 slugging percentage and .478 on-base percentage while tallying at least one hit in all six contests. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native had a pair of hits in both wins against Manhattan Monday, including a two-hit, four RBI outing in game two, which was an 11-0 five-running victory for the Jacks. She also had one three-hit performance against Loyola Marymount, as she drove in two runs and recorded a double. This is the second Summit League weekly honor for Culver.
Kniesche, the pitcher of the week, posted a 0.00 ERA in three games, picking up a pair of wins and a save. The Wayne, Neb., native opened her week against Manhattan by pitching two innings to preserve the Jacks' 4-3 lead, earning the save. She struck out all five batters faced against the Jaspers. Later in the week, Kniesche struck out eight batters in seven innings against CSUN and then 10 more in a six-inning run-rule victory over Loyola Marymount. In total, she walked just one batter in 15 innings of work and struck out 23 with a .176 opponent batting average. This is the fifth career and second consecutive Summit League weekly honor for Kniesche.
