SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State secured its spot in the Summit League Tournament title game thanks to a monster first half of play during an 83-60 victory over South Dakota in the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Monday night.
SDSU is now tied with Murray State for the longest active win streak in Division I at 20 straight wins and have also broken the school record for wins in a season with tonight's 29
th victory.
Douglas Wilson led the way in scoring, dropping in 21 points and pulling down eight rebounds.
Baylor Scheierman finished with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists while going 6-of-9 from the floor.
Zeke Mayo rounded out double-figure scoring for State with 13 points, three assists and three 3-pointers.
SDSU (29-4) shot an overall 60 percent from the field, 42 percent from behind the arc and 76 percent from the free throw line. The Jacks had 19 points off the bench and outrebounded their opponent 34-19.
The first half was a story of near perfection for the yellow and blue, as SDSU shot 69 percent from the floor and committed only one turnover much to the excitement of an electric Jackrabbit crowd.
USD (19-12) held a 3-2 lead for 26 seconds at the beginning of the contest, but SDSU took control after Mayo's first of three first half 3-pointers and never looked back. Hot shooting and multiple 8-0 runs from the Jacks quickly pushed the lead to double digits and helped maintain dominance until the halftime buzzer.
South Dakota State headed into the locker room with the 55-30 advantage after the stellar first half performance.
Success continued for SDSU throughout the second half and the PREMIER Center was brought to its feet thanks to multiple long-range triples and a dunk from Wilson. Every SDSU player got action on the court before the final buzzer sounded.
