FARGO, N.D. - South Dakota State softball used a flurry of late runs in both games of a doubleheader Saturday to take two from North Dakota State at Tharaldson Park.
The Jackrabbits won 8-1 in 10 innings in game one, then matched that score with an 8-1 win in game two.
Rozelyn Carrillo extended her hit streak to a whopping 18 games while
Grace Glanzer and
Tori Kniesche picked up a win apiece to push the Jacks to 31-10 (12-2 Summit) on the year.
SDSU battled through a long day at the park that lasted more than eight hours from the first pitch to the final out. Game one was suspended for more than two hours in the top of the 10th inning due to a severe weather warning. Game two featured a 45-minute lightning delay after the second inning.
Game 1 - W, 8-1 (10 innings)
After eight scoreless innings, SDSU finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the ninth frame to take a 1-0 lead over the Bison. NDSU answered in the bottom half of the inning but the Jacks broke the game open with seven runs in the 10th for the 8-1 victory.
Kelsey Lenox needed one pitch to put SDSU on the board, homering on the first pitch of the ninth. The Bison tied things up in the bottom by capitalizing on a two-out single to score a runner from second base.
Emma Osmundson reached on a fielder's choice in the 10th that plated
Jocelyn Carrillo as the winning run. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Lenox tallied another RBI by drawing a walk to make it a 3-1 contest.
Cheyanne Masterson,
Lindsey Culver Brooke Dumont and
Jocelyn Carrillo also added insurance RBIs in the 10th.
Grace Glanzer improves to 16-4 this year with a complete game performance. She struck out seven batters and did not give up any walks. The sophomore allowed six hits, four of which came in extra innings. Glanzer sat the Bison down in order in six of the 10 frames.
Rozelyn Carrillo went 3-for-5 with one double. Her sister, Jocelyn, notched two hits.
Game 2 - W, 8-1
The second half of the doubleheader was also a stalemate until late in the game.
An RBI double from
Lindsey Culver and RBI single from
Allison Yoder gave the Jackrabbits a 2-0 lead at the midway point of the sixth. The Bison made it a 2-1 game after the bottom of the inning.
Cheyanne Masterson blasted a three-RBI shot over the left field fence in the seventh to extend the lead, followed by RBIs by Yoder and
Rozelyn Carrillo to round out the scoring.
Tori Kniesche matched her career high with 12 strikeouts and is now 13-5 this season. She gave up five hits, four walks and one earned run to the Bison. She has allowed fewer than two earned runs in seven of her eight Summit League appearances.
Yoder was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, including the game winner.

- The Jackrabbits have reached the 30-win mark for the seventh time in program history and fourth time in the last five seasons under Krista Wood.
- Cheyanne Masterson has 10 home runs this season and Kelsey Lenox has six.
- The Jackrabbits have hit 56 home runs this season, second in program history only to last season's new record of 73.
- Grace Glanzer has walked zero batters in five games this season.
- Tori Kniesche has stuck out 12 batters twice this season and five times in her career. The SDSU record for single-game strikeouts is 13.
