South Dakota State softball sophomores
Cheyanne Masterson and
Tori Kniesche were named the TicketSmarter Summit League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the conference office Monday. The duo led SDSU to a 3-0 sweep over St. Thomas last week with outstanding performances at the plate and in the circle.Â
Masterson hit .750 against the Tommies, going 6-for-8 in the three-game series. She recorded a 1.875 slugging percentage and .778 on-base percentage while recording six RBIs, five runs and three homers. Masterson currently ranks second in the Summit League with 13 home runs overall and ranks first in conference action with nine homers.Â
Kniesche collected 33 strikeouts across her 12 innings of work this week while tossing two no-hitters. She opened her week striking out 13 batters and walking only two in a five-inning no-hitter to pick up her 14th win of the season. Kniesche recorded 20 strikeouts Friday in the first seven-inning no-hitter of her career. She allowed only one walk and had only one pitch put into play, which resulted in a foul out to third place. Kneische is one of two pitchers in the country this season to strikeout 20+ batters in a seven-inning game and one of 14 in NCAA Division I history.
This is the fourth weekly honor of the season for Kniesche. Masterson becomes the fourth Jackrabbit to earn a weekly honor this season, joining Kniesche,
Lindsey Culver and
Rozelyn Carrillo.
