JACKS HONORED ON USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC LIST

NEW ORLEANS – The South Dakota State men's and women's cross country teams each were recognized as U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams. Ben Olson and Leah Hansen were also named 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country Men's and Women's All-Academic Athletes, respectively.
A total of 249 women's teams and 216 men's teams were honored after having met the required team qualification of a team cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Eight women's teams and seven men's teams from the Summit League received the honor.
On the women's side, SDSU, who placed second at the 2022 Summit League XC championships, finished with a 3.56 overall GPA for fourth-best in the league. North Dakota led the way for the Summit with a 3.861 cumulative GPA.
On the men's side, South Dakota State, the defending seven-straight Summit League champions, earned a 3.3 GPA. North Dakota led the league with a 3.565 overall GPA.
Hansen, who has won three straight Summit League individual titles and is the reigning league women's cross country athlete of the year, was the only female athlete from the Summit to be honored individually. A total of 171 women from 88 different institutions were recognized.
Olson, the current Summit League XC individual champion and XC men's athlete of the year, was also the lone league representative to be named an All-Academic Athlete. 124 men from 58 different institutions were honored.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
