ST. LOUIS — South Dakota State guard Mason McCormick was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.
A senior from Sioux Falls, McCormick graded at 93 percent and was credited with six knockdown blocks in the Jackrabbits' 42-21 victory over No. 11/12 North Dakota on Sept. 30. In improving to 4-0 on the season and running their overall winning streak to 18 games, the Jackrabbits rushed for 266 yards in the game for an average of 7.2 yards per carry and scored touchdowns on six of their first seven offensive possessions. SDSU did not allow a sack and allowed only two tackles for loss for a total of three yards in finishing with a 433-234 advantage in total offense.
McCormick is the third SDSU player to earn a league player of the week award this season, joining wide Grififin Wilde (Newcomer of the Week, Sept. 9) and punt returner/safety Tucker Large (Special Teams Player of the Week, Sept. 16).
The top-ranked Jackrabbits return to action Saturday with a matchup at 22nd-ranked Illinois State. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Hancock Stadium in Normal, Illinois.
