BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota State men's basketball team used a late first half run to break open its exhibition contest versus the University of Mary and eventually closed out a 91-51 victory in Frost Arena Wednesday. Â

The Jackrabbits and Marauders played a back-and-forth contest to start as Mary hit its first four 3-point attempts of the evening. It took 12 minutes into the half for SDSU to push the game out of a single possession score. From there, the Jackrabbits cruised.Â

South Dakota closed out the first half on a 13-0 run, which was part of a 20-2 run over the last five minutes of the period, to take a 48-25 lead into halftime.Â

The Jacks' largest lead of the night came with the final score as 14 players saw action. Four Jackrabbits scored in double figures led by
Luke Appel's 15 points and eight rebounds.Â

South Dakota State makes its 2023-24 season debut on Monday when the Jackrabbits host Akron in Frost Arena. The contest is part of a doubleheader with the men's game tipoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m.Â
