CONWAY, Ark. – South Dakota State rallied from an early deficit for the second consecutive day but was unable to overcome host Central Arkansas as the Sugar Bears beat the Jackrabbits, 7-6, in the Michelle Short Memorial Classic finale on Sunday at Farris Field.Â

Rozelyn Carrillo two-run home run began the scoring in the top of the first inning to put the Jacks ahead aearly, however Central Arkansas responded by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning off SDSU starter
Shannon Lasey to make it a 4-2 game.Â

The Jackrabbits came back from trailing early in the second to tie the score. RBI singles by
Emma Osmundson and Carrillo boosted SDSU into a 4-all game through two innings of play. SDSU gained a 5-4 lead in the third behind a sacrifice fly by
Jocelyn Carrillo.Â

Alexa Williams came in for relief in the circle in the second inning and kept the Jackrabbits in the contest. She also was utilized at the plate and had an RBI single in the top of the fifth that gave the Jacks a 6-5 advantage.Â

Central Arkansas jumped ahead in the bottom of the sixth. The Sugar Bears loaded the bases and with one out Kylie Griffin hit a two-run double to propel UCA ahead 7-6.Â

Lindsey Culver was able to get on base with a two-out double in the seventh, but she was left stranded to close out the matchup.Â

The Jackrabbits finished the game out-hitting the Sugar Bears 10-8. UCA took advantage of four extra-base hits on the day and had nine walks to SDSU's five.Â

SDSU was led at the plate by
Rozelyn Carrillo who had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs and a run scored.
Mia Jarecki scored two runs for SDSU.Â

Williams was 2-for-3 hitting for the Jackrabbits as she picked up her first batting stats of her college career. She picked up the loss in the circle for SDSU as she went five innings giving up three runs on three hits and six walks. She also struck out three batters.Â

Griffin had three hits for UCA along with three RBIs. Kayla Beavers claimed the win in relief for the Sugar Bears after she pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on five hits.Â

- Mia Jarecki has hit a team-high four home runs for the Jackrabbits. Following her with three each is Lindsey Culver and Rozelyn Carrilllo. Jarecki also has a team-high 36 total bases and 16 runs scored this season.Â
- Williams is now 0-3 in the circle for the Jackrabbits in six appearances but has a less than 3.00 ERA.Â
- South Dakota State is 9-6 overall this season.Â

South Dakota State is scheduled to participate in the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational from March 3-5. The Jackrabbits will play in Tulsa on Friday, then play three games in Stillwater on Saturday and Sunday.   Â
