South Dakota State continues the 2023 season this weekend when the Jackrabbits participate in the OSU/Tulsa Invitational.Â
Â
The tournament, hosted by both Oklahoma State and Tulsa, will see SDSU face Tarleton State and Tusla at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, at Tulsa's Collins Family Softball Complex on Friday. The Jacks head over to Stillwater for their next three games. SDSU will meet Tarleton State again at noon on Saturday this time at Cowgirl Stadium. The Jackrabbits' next two contests will see them pitted against the third-ranked team in the nation in Oklahoma State. They will face the Cowgirls on their home field at 2:30 pm. Saturday and follow it with a weekend finale at 12 p.m. on Sunday.Â
Â
South Dakota State returns to action with a 9-6 overall record. The Jacks had a 1-2 stay at Central Arkansas' Michelle Short Memorial Classic last week. The Jacks beat Mississippi Valley State in five innings, 11-0, to begin their weekend. They followed it up with close defeats to Missouri State (8-6) and Central Arkansas (7-6)
Â
SDSU has been led by its hitters that make up its top two spots consistently in the lineup in
Mia Jarecki and
Emma Osmundson. Jarecki is hitting .380 and Osmundson has a .391 average through 15 games. Jarecki ranks at the top of statistical categories among Summit League players in hits (19), home runs (4), runs per game (1.1), total bases (36) and slugging percentage (.720). Osmundson is second in the conference in hits (18).Â
Â
Jarecki and Osmundson were just a couple of Jackrabbits that stood out in SDSU's recent road trip. Both hit over .400 in the three-game span as Jarecki had a combined three extra-base hits and Osmundson drove in four runs.
Lindsey Culver improved her batting average to .297 by going 3-for-7 with two home runs and scored six runs.
Rozelyn Carrillo improved her batting average by more than .100 by going 7-for-10 with a pair of home runs and doubles.Â
Â
Shannon Lasey threw a five-inning shuout against Mississippi Valley State, but the highlight in the circle was
Alexa Williams. She pitched seven innings of relief in two games for the Jacks. She gave up three runs and three hits while keeping SDSU in its two losses. She also had an impact at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI against Central Arkansas. Â
Â
Tarleton State enters the weekend with an 11-7 overall. Two of the Texans' wins recently came against Summit League foe, Kansas City, which Tarleton defeated 6-2 and 6-3. Tulsa is 7-8 so far this season and will be playing its first home games as part of the tournament hosted alongside Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls are 13-1 this season and have won 11 straight games. Oklahoma State was one of the last three teams remaining at last year's NCAA Women's College World Series
