JACKRABBITS PICKED THIRD IN OUTDOOR TRACK

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field teams were each selected to finish third in the Summit League for the incoming 2023 outdoor season following a vote among the league's coaches.
Voting resulted in a tight race for the top three spots on the men's side, as South Dakota was chosen as the overall men's favorite, claiming four of the eight first-place votes for 46 points. North Dakota State took second with three first-place votes for 42 points, edging SDSU which came third with one first-place vote and 41 points.
North Dakota (26), St. Thomas (26), Kansas City (17), Western Illinois (16) and Oral Roberts (10) rounded out the men's ranking.
South Dakota was again the favorite on the women's side—as the Coyotes swept the Summit League Indoor Championships—with 63 points and seven of nine first-place votes. North Dakota State came second with 58 points and two first-place votes while SDSU finished third with 50 points.
Completing the women's poll were North Dakota (43), Kansas City (32), St. Thomas (27), Omaha (22), Western Illinois (15) and Oral Roberts (14).
In addition to the preseason rankings, four Jackrabbits—two men and two women—were selected as Summit League Preseason Athletes to Watch.

- Placed 11th in the hammer throw at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a career-best throw of 179-7 (54.75m)
- Finished seventh in the shot put at the League outdoor championships with a mark of 57-06.25 (17.53m)
- Finished in the top five of the shot put in four meets last season
Sr | Sprints/Hurdles | Nisswa, Minn.
- Defended his 400m hurdle crown at the 2022 League outdoor championships with a time of 50.91, breaking the previous record (51.27) set back in 1990
- Ran a leg of the 4x100m relay that took second at the League outdoor championships with a time of 40.57
- Was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that took fifth at the League outdoor championships with a time of 3:21.55

- Took gold at the 2022 League outdoor championships in the 5,000m (16:54.60) and the 10,000m (35:37.00)
- Clocked a career-best 5,000m time of 16:16.46 at the Bryan Clay Invitational
- Won the 10,000m at the Drake Relays in a time of 34:49.31

- Took fourth at the 2022 League outdoor meet in the shot put with a toss of 47-3 (14.40m)
- Finished fourth at the League outdoor championships in the discus with a mark of 152-9 (46.57m)
- Threw a school record distance of 174-1 (53.07m) in the discus at the South Dakota Challenge
