SDSU EARNS FOUR MEDALS IN OPENING DAY

FARGO, ND – The South Dakota State Jackrabbits took home four medals in the first day of competition at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the Terrence Dahl and Donna Beres Track Complex.
Hunter Wallster secured the first medal after taking second place in the men's hammer throw with a personal best 207-01.00, now the top mark in school history.
Two more Jackrabbits then took places on the medal stand after Joseph Minor-Williams won the men's 10k with a time of 31:13.38 and Ben Olson took third in 31:19.13.
In the same event, Max Selbach (31:53.36) finished fifth, Mason McDonald (32:52.94) was ninth and Kyle Nordling (33:15.45) came 11th.
Leah Hansen was then crowned Summit League champion of the women's 10k after clocking a 35:50.48 to take home the gold. Caitlin Bright took fifth with a 37:09.96 and Mya Kizer finished sixth in 37:16.27.
In the men's javelin, Tristen Hanna finished fifth with a throw of 180-08.00 while Matthew Katz took eighth with a personal best 174-05.00.
Nora Peterson finished fifth overall in the women's javelin finals with a mark of 134-10.00.
Catylynn Duff led the way for SDSU in the women's hammer throw with her mark of 170-11.00 for sixth place. Marianne Robin came 11th with a 162-01.00 and Mildred Young was 15th with a 146-11.00.
Lizzy Gillingham is currently in fifth place of the heptathlon through four events with 2771 points. She ran a PR in the 100-meter hurdles (15.35) and won the shot put with a 36-09.00.
Through five events of the decathlon, Ryan Benson sits in fifth place with 3495 points. He ran a personal best 11.16 in the 110-meter hurdles and tied his PR of 52.08 in the 400-meter dash.
Competition will resume tomorrow morning at an adjusted earlier time due to potential thunderstorms. The multis will now start at 10 a.m. with the field events beginning at 2 p.m. and track events at 3:30 p.m.
