AUSTIN, TX – South Dakota State senior
Daniel Burkhalter has been selected for the 2022-2023 Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America team by the College Sports Communicators, officials announced Wednesday.
The Prairie City, SD native was named to the NCAA Division I Third Team after earning a 4.0 undergraduate/graduate GPA in Mathematics/Statistics and is one of 16 Division I selections with a 4.0 GPA.
Burkhalter achieved numerous accolades during his 2022-23 athletic campaign for SDSU, including five total new personal bests in cross country and track, a fifth place-finish at the Summit League XC Championships, the gold medal in the mile and a fourth-place finish in the 3k at the league indoor meet and a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run at the league's outdoor track championships.
He is also a three-time Summit League indoor track and a two-time Summit League cross country and outdoor track Academic All-League honoree.
The Academic All-America program, sponsored by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and academically. Candidates, who are first nominated and honored at the district level, must be a starter or important reserve on their team, have completed one calendar year at their institution and carry at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
