BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State softball program has signed a player with collegiate Division I experience as Madi Conklin, who spent the last two years with the Arkansas Razorbacks, will join the Jackrabbits for the 2023-24 academic year.Â
Â
Conklin didn't play in any games as a freshman on a 2022 Arkansas team that won that year's SEC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals. This past season, Conklin made her debut with the Razorbacks and appeared in six games. She had four at-bats for Arkansas and recorded three hits, including a double and two RBIs while serving as a reserve catcher.Â
Â
Prior to signing with the Hogs, Conklin played at Southside High School out of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was ranked the No. 46 player in her signing class, and No. 14 catcher, by Extra Innings Softball. A two-time All-State selection, Conklin hit nearly .500 in two varsity seasons and had a .539 batting average as a sophomore. She registered 13 home runs, over 100 RBIs and 80 runs across three full prep campaigns. Conklin played travel softball for Tulsa Elite and while in high school she also participated in volleyball, basketball and track and field.Â
Â
"Madi will be an immediate impact player for the Jackrabbits both behind the plate and at a corner infield position," said South Dakota State head coach
Kristina McSweeney. "She has huge offensive abilities at the plate. Her work ethic and ability to compete at the highest level will make her a perfect fit for our team. I am beyond thrilled to welcome her and her family to SDSU!"
Â
The South Dakota State softball team ended its 2023 season with a 39-19 overall record. The Jackrabbits earned The Summit League's regular season title for the third consecutive year with a 17-0 record in conference play. The SDSU squad advanced to postseason play, participating in the National Invitational Softball Championship, for the fifth straight season.
