ST. LOUIS — South Dakota State kick returner Angel Johnson was honored Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Jackrabbits' Hobo Day victory.
A junior from Viborg, Johnson returned the game's opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to set the tone in South Dakota State's 63-13 win over Youngstown State on Oct. 12. His kickoff return for TD was the first by a Jackrabbit since 2017.Â
For the game, Johnson tallied 114 yards on two kickoffs and added 42 rushing yards on three carries en route to a single-game career-high 156 all-purpose yards.
Top-ranked South Dakota State travels to No. 2 North Dakota State Saturday for the annual Dakota Marker matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota, and will be played before a national television audience on ESPN2.
