BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State men's basketball team got a solid test run on Wednesday as the Jackrabbits defeated Black Hills State, 90-77, inside First Bank & Trust Arena. The contest was SDSU's lone exhibition ahead of the official start of the 2024-25 season.Â

South Dakota State knocked down a 3-pointer to put the first points up on the scoreboard. Black Hills State countered with a pair of free throws to cut the margin to 3-2. A set of
Oscar Cluff free throws extended the SDSU advantage and the Jackrabbits never looked back from there.

The Jacks eventually went to halftime with a 47-33 lead. South Dakota State got up by as many as 20 points before the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to seven on multiple occasions. SDSU held off any late Black Hills State rally as the Jacks eventually led for a total time of 38 minutes and 40 seconds.Â

SDSU shot over 50% from the field and nearly 40% behind the 3-point line. The Jackrabbits also corralled 49 rebounds while dishing out 14 assists.Â

Cluff, a senior center, had a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. SDSU welcomed 2,721 fans into First Bank & Trust Arena for the men's basketball matchup in the facility.

The Jackrabbits now look ahead to their season opener. SDSU is slated to begin its campaign as a part of the Field of 68 Showcase in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Pentagon on Monday. The Jacks square off with McNeese State, a team receiving votes in top 25 polls, at 5 p.m.Â
