LONG BEACH, CA – The South Dakota State men's discus record, previously set in 2000, was broken on Thursday in the first day of track action in California.
Ethan Fischer threw a monstrous 186-05.00 to make new Jackrabbit history and finish seventh overall at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet as
Caiden Fredrick took 22
nd with a 166-04.00.
In the shot put,
Lee Reiser claimed 40
th overall with a throw of 49-10.50 while
Hunter Wallster threw a 184-11.00 for 18
th place in the hammer throw.
Tristen Hanna flew into 11
th place of the men's triple jump with a mark of 47-04.50 as
Rylan McDonnell finished 20
th in the long jump with a leap of 23-02.50, just .25 off his personal best.
Hanna also took 18
th overall in the javelin, throwing a 165-09.00
Matt Katz clear 15-05.50 in the pole vault for 23
rd place overall while in the high jump,
Connor Powers and
Carson Kirwan each cleared 6-05.00 to tie for 15
th overall.
Andrew Moeller clocked a 1:58.32 in the 800-meter run, taking fourth in his heat and 14
th place overall.
On the women's side of action,
Brielle Dixon (13.89) finished sixth in heat two and 14
th overall in the 100-meter hurdles as
Savannah Risseeuw (13.99) took fourth in heat three and 18
th overall.
Laura Bogue clocked a 1:05.99 for a 48
th place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
Madison Kizer placed first in her flight and fifth overall in the high jump with her mark of 5-07.25, tying her outdoor PR, as
Layne Kirkendoll tied for 14
th with a PR-tying 5-05.25.
Kirkendoll also competed in the long jump, finishing 50
th with a mark of 17-01.50.
Laci Leverty tied for 20
th in the pole vault with the sixth-best mark in school history of 12-04.00.
Milee Young took 22
nd overall in the discus throw with her mark of 146-10.00 and
Nora Peterson finished 10
th in the javelin throw with a 126-09.00.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, two Jackrabbits clocked All-Time performances during the open 3000-meter steeplechase event.
Cody Larson finished seventh overall with a time of 8:52.44—the third-best time in SDSU history—and
Josh Becker came 16
th with an 8:55.38—now fifth on the All-Time List.
Through five events in the men's decathlon,
Ryan Benson currently sits seventh with 3547 points. He earned two PRs so far, with a 37-11.50 in the shot put and a 52.02 in the 400-meter dash.
Action will continue tomorrow for the Jackrabbits at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational.
