MANKATO, MN – South Dakota State track and field athletes garnered top finishes in two meets across Minnesota on Wednesday to kick off the final week of regular season competition.
At the Maverick Open #1 hosted by MSUM, the day started strong as freshman
Caiden Fredrick threw the fifth-best discus throw mark in school history, finishing third overall with his new PR of 176-02.00.
Ethan Fischer won the event with a mark of 185-01.00 while
Hunter Wallster also won the hammer throw with a 196-05.00.
Hudson Schroeder qualified for the 100-meter dash finals, finishing third with a 10.76, and also finished sixth overall in the 200-meter dash after clocking a 21.91.
In the 110-meter hurdle finals,
Carter Johnson led the way in sixth in a personal best 14.97 seconds.
Ryan Benson was seventh in 15.05,
Ben Morningstar came eighth in 15.31 and
Aiden Voss clocked a 15.58 for ninth. Morningstar ad Voss each previously ran new personal bests in the preliminary round, clocking a 15.25 and a 15.41, respectively.
James Pierce won the 400-meter dash in 47.83 seconds, a new PR and the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Thailan Hallman finished fourth overall in 48.90 as
Kudra Nzibariza was sixth in 49.89.
Jeremiah Donahoe ran a personal best of 54.95 for fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles as Benson was fifth with a PR of 55.09.
On the women's side of action,
Emily Rystrom ran a personal best 25.44 for an 11
th place finish in the 200-meter dash and finished third overall in the 400-meter dash, clocking a new PR of 57.52.
Josie Curry claimed seventh place in the finals of the hammer throw with her personal best mark of 161-07.00 as
Milee Young was runner-up of the discus throw with a 156-00.00.
Over in St. Paul at the Joe Sweeney Invitational,
Sam Castle won the 800-meter run in a new PR time of 1:51.96.
Sean Murphy came 15
th in 1:55.44 and
Andrew Moeller was 18
th in 1:55.97.
In the men's 1500-meter run,
Luke Johnson finished fifth overall with a new personal best time of 3:55.26.
Hannah Spoden was fourth in the women's 800-meter run, clocking a 2:16.30, as
Reese Luze followed close before in fifth with a 2:16.66.
Emily Plucker ran a PR of 2:18.11 for 10
th place and
Selma Dingmann was 26
th in 2:27.05.
Jenna Soine led a pack of Jackrabbits to top 20 finishes, running a 4:43.16 for seventh place and a new PR.
Nina Dawson came eighth in a personal best 4:43.18,
Emma Ecker was 11
th in 4:45.48 and
Kayla Christopherson ran a PR of 4:46.78 for 13
th.
Emma Gonzalez (15
th, 4:48.54, PR) and
Abby Deutsch (19
th, 4:50.99) rounded out the top 20.
