South Dakota State is prepped for two matches at the Bradley Classic this weekend. The Jacks are coming off another 3-0 weekend and, at 6-0 overall, is off to its best start in SDSU's Divison I era.
KEY STORYLINES
- SDSU enters the weekend 6-0 for the first time since 2002, when the Jacks started the year with nine consecutive wins.
- The Jackrabbits are one of 28 remaining unbeaten teams in the country as of Thursday morning and the lone Summit League team without a loss.
- As a team, SDSU ranks 16th in the country in blocks per set (2.95). The Jacks set a single-match program record with 18 blocks against UIC last weekend.
- Alyssa Groves, Madison Burr and Sydni Schetnan were named to the Leatherneck Classic all-tournament team last weekend with Groves earning MVP honors.
- Groves averaged 2.58 kills per set at a .429 clip and tallied 1.33 blocks per set over three matches last weekend.
- SDSU's offense is led by Sylvie Zgonc's 4.64 kills per set over six matches, which is first in the Summit League and 14th in the country.
- In the season opener, Sylvie Zgonc's 25 kills matched the program record for kills in a three-set match and set the national lead for the season.
- Freshman Madison Burr notched 10 blocks against UIC last weekend, matching the program record for blocks in a three-set match.
- Sylvie Zgonc is back for her sophomore season after earning Summit League Freshman of the Year and Summit League First Team honors a year ago.
- Sylvie Zgonc and Sydni Schetnan were named Preseason Players to Watch by the Summit League.
- SDSU's 2024 roster features a blend of seven returners and eight newcomers. The team comes with plenty of experience as there are eight players listed as a junior, senior or graduate student.
- Dan Georgalas enters his fifth season as the Jackrabbits' head coach. SDSU is 55-58 overall and 34-34 in the Summit League under Georgalas.
- SDSU will play its entire non-con season away from home for the second straight year due to renovations to the Jacks' home facility. The Jackrabbits' newly renovated home facility, First Bank & Trust Arena, will officially debut with the first home match against Kansas City Oct. 3.
