BROOKINGS, S.D. — Several Jackrabbits posted personal records during day one of the South Dakota State Classic Friday evening.
Hunter Wallster had himself a day as he posted a personal record in weight throw. Wallster threw 65-11.50 (20.10m) to win the event and become the third-best performer in SDSU history. Caiden Fredrick finished runner-up behind Wallster with a mark of 62-11.25 (19.18m). Ethan Fischer and Ryan Hackbart rounded out the Jackrabbit lineup as Fischer finished fourth with a mark of 60-08.00 (18.49m) while Hackbart took seventh with a mark of 56-06.50 (17.23m).
Sam Castle keeps clocking records as the sophomore moved up the SDSU top 10 all-time list. Last time out, Castle tied Head Coach Rod DeHaven's 800-meter time at 1:51.31. This time around, Castle topped his time with an 800-meter mark of 1:50.94 to win the event and become the third-fastest performer in program history.
The distance women continue to impress as three Jackrabbits placed in the top five of the 3000-meter race.
Jessica Lutmer won the event with a time of 9:45.05.
Ashlyn Hillyard had an excellent performance for her first outing of the year. Hillyard crossed the line at 9:52.26 to secure bronze.
Mya Kizer rounded out the top-five finishers with a time of 9:56.27.
Emma Gonzalez and
Nicole Swanson competed for the Jacks as well. Gonzalez clocked a time of 9:58.76, while Swanson crossed the line at 10:16.99 to take 18th.
Lindsey Rotz and Grace Waage showed up and showed out in the 800-meter as well. Rotz clocked a time of 2:10.75 to finish runner-up, while Waage took third with a time of 2:11.10. Both Rotz and Waage moved up the top 10 all-time list as Rotz's time solidified her as the third-fastest performer in program history, while Waage's performance set her at fourth-fastest.
Cody Larson and Carson Noecker put on a show in the 5000-meter. Larson finished runner-up with a personal record of 14:06.83 to move up to second-fastest performer in program history. Noecker cruised in behind him at 14:15.25 to secure bronze and become the fifth-fastest performer in program history.
Courtney Stadter continues to impress in her first year with the Jackrabbits as she finished runner-up in the 5000-meter. Stadter clocked a time of 16:47.45 to etch her name in the top 10 all-time list as the fifth-best performer.
Jaden Peters was back in action tonight representing the Jackrabbits in the pole vault. Peters finished runner-up with a mark of 15-05.00 (4.70m).
On the women's side,
Ella Peterreins made her mark on the top 10 list as she leaped over 11-03.75 (3.45m) to become the eighth-best performer in program history and finish ninth in the event.
Ellie Harris and Sian O'Sullivan made their mark in the all-time list. Harris took fifth in the 200-meter invitational with a time of 24.97 to become the eighth-fastest performer in program history. O'Sullivan won the 200-meter open at 24.95 to make the all-time list as the seventh-best performer in Jackrabbit history.
