WICHITA, Kan. — South Dakota State had a varying set of games at the Shocker Invitational hosted by Wichita State on Saturday. The Jackrabbits began the day with a 10-1 run-rule defeat to Missouri. SDSU then responded in its following game, rallying back to tie the score in the seventh inning, before a walk-off double ended a 5-4 affair to Wichita State at Wilkins Stadium.Â

Game One (vs. Missouri)
The Tigers scored runs in every inning but the first as Mizzou cruised to a 10-1 victory in five innings over the Jackrabbits.Â

Mizzou, a team receiving votes across Division I softball national polls, only produced four hits on the day. The Tigers took advantage of their opportunities by hitting three home runs which put Mizzou up 5-0 through three innings of action.Â

A three-run double in the fourth and a pair of walks that plated runners made the difference for the Tigers in the win. Mizzou's Madison Walker was 2-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs while teammate Tayler Ebbs also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.Â

SDSU's lone run of the meeting came in the bottom of the fifth when
Emma Vike hit a solo home run.
Brooke Dumont also picked up a single in the second.Â

Mizzou starting pitcher Taylor Pannell improved to 3-2 on the season. She went all five innings and stuck out seven batters, while walking two, in the win.
Amanda Vacanti was given the loss after she pitched the first 2 2/3 innings.
Madi Mangulis and
Kierra Goos also pitched in relief along with
Hailey Herman who threw a scoreless inning.Â

Game Two (vs. Wichita State)
South Dakota State rallied back from two runs down in the seventh, however the Shockers came away with a victory in the bottom of the inning via a walk-off double.Â

The Shockers got the scoring started in the second by loading the bases. Wichita State's Ellie Eck recorded an RBI on a walk that plated one Shocker, but SDSU starter
Tayler Baker limited the damage by forcing a ground out on her next batter faced.Â

The top of the third saw South Dakota State tie the score as Vike stroked her second solo home run of the day. Two doubles by the Wichita State lineup in the bottom of the third put the home side back up, 2-1.

SDSU again tied the score in the top of the fourth. A Vacanti RBI double platedÂ
Akayla Barnard to make it 2-2. The bottom of the frame saw SDSU commit two errors, which then led to a two-run single, giving the Shockers a lead again at 4-2.Â

The Jackrabbits put together solid opportunities in the fifth and sixth innings. SDSU loaded the bases in the fifth with one out, but a fielder's and strikeout ended the threat. The sixth inning saw the Jacks record three hits, but a double play and ground out got Wichita State out of the frame.Â

SDSU came up to bat for a potential final time in the seventh.
Abby Gentry hit a one-out single with
Brooke Dumont waiting in the on-deck circle. Dumont took an 0-1 pitch and hit a home run over the left-center field fence, tying the score at 4-4.Â

The Shockers came back to bat in the bottom of the seventh. A leadoff walk saw the runner get advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Wichita State's Jodie Epperson closed the game out by hitting an RBI double, providing the Shockers with the walk-off victory.Â

South Dakota State outhit Wichita State 11-7 in the ballgame. Dumont and Gentry each had two hits, as well as
Lila McNeill, whose pair of hits were the first of her college career.Â

Baker pitched 3 1/3 innings for SDSU giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits. She struck out and walked three hitters apiece. Vacanti threw three innings in relief for the Jacks. She was credited with the loss as as she allowed one run on two hits.

The Jackrabbits complete their showing at the Shocker Invitational at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday when SDSU takes on Wichita State in a rematch at Wilkins Stadium.  Â
