LINCOLN, Neb. – South Dakota State completed a three-game sweep of Northern Colorado at Nebraska's Big Red Spring Fling on Monday, March 10, as the Jackrabbits defeated the Bears 8-7 at Bowlin Stadium. The Jacks previously beat UNC by 4-1 and 5-4 scores over the weekend.Â

SDSU trailed 2-0 following the first inning.Â

The Jacks scored four runs across the tops of the second and third innings to go ahead, 4-2.
Madi Conklin got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly,
Addison Blomberg's first hit of her college career came via an RBI single,
Mia Jarecki added an RBI single of her own and
Emma Vike also plated a Jackrabbit on a sacrifice fly.Â

The Bears responded in the bottom of the third with three runs to retake the lead by a 5-4 score.Â

An
Akayla Barnard RBI single in the fourth tied the score at 5-5. The margin remained the same until the top of the seventh inning.

SDSU got runners to second and third when Vike's second sacrifice fly of the day gave the Jackrabbits a 6-5 edge.
Madi Conklin followed with an RBI double, then a
Kendall Daniel drove in a run on a fielder's choice to put the Jacks on top 8-5 heading to the bottom of the frame.Â

Madi Mangulis came on in relief in the third inning and shut out Northern Colorado for four innings. The Bears tried to rally as Mangulis worked to close the game out.Â

Three hits and an infield error gave the Bears an opportunity to win in the seventh. UNC trailed 8-7 with runners on second and third with two outs. Mangulis was able to produce a ground out to get out of the jam and help lead the Jackrabbits to their third victory over the Bears in a three-day span.Â

Mangulis was credited with the victory as she improved to 3-3 overall. She threw five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. Mangulis didn't walk or strike out a batter as she threw 59 pitches.

Alli Boyle had a team-high three hits to lead the South Dakota State lineup. Blomberg and Jarecki each had two hits, while
Abby Gentry scored two runs.Â

South Dakota State improved to 10-13 overall on the season.Â

- South Dakota State has won five of its last six games after experiencing an 11-game losing streak.Â
- Two Jackrabbits are hitting over .400 on the season in Brooke Dumont (.413) and Abby Gentry (.403). Dumont leads the team in home runs (6), RBIs (19), doubles (9) and slugging percentage (.841).Â
- Mangulis and Akayla Barnard have three wins apiece among SDSU's pitchers. Amanda Vacanti has a team-best 3.41 ERA and has thrown a team-high 37 innings.
