COLUMBIA, Mo. – The South Dakota State softball team faced a pair of Tigers squads in Princeton and Missouri at Mizzou Softball Stadium on Thursday. The Jackrabbits defeated Princeton in the tournament opener, 8-5, but fell to Missouri in five innings by a 9-1 score.Â

Game One (vs. Princeton)
South Dakota State broke up a tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim an 8-5 victory over Princeton.Â

Abby Gentry accounted for three RBIs behind two sacrifice flies and a solo home run,
Alli Boyle hit an RBI double, while
Emma Vike drove in one run on a single to put the Jacks up 5-2 through five innings of action.Â

SDSU pitchers
Tayler Baker and
Madi Mangulis each threw three innings for the Jacks. They kept the Tiger lineup at bay until the bottom of the sixth when Princeton used two singles to set up a three-run home run to tie the game at 5-5.Â

Caitlyn Wells led off the seventh for South Dakota State with a single.
Cece Hanson pinch ran for Wells and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hanson was plated on an RBI double off the bat of Gentry, putting the Jackrabbits ahead 6-5. SDSU added some insurance as Vike produced a two-run double and got the Jacks up by three.Â

Hailey Herman came in to pitch the seventh in relief for South Dakota State. She gave up one double, but thwarted any other damage to close out a victory for the Jacks. The win was the fourth straight for the squad and gave SDSU its eight win in its last nine games.Â

Gentry, Boyle, Vike and
Mia Jarecki had two hits apiece. Gentry had a team-high four RBIs while Vike followed with three. Herman earned her first victory of the season.Â

Game Two (vs. Missouri)
Missouri scored seven runs on four hits and three walks in the first inning and never looked back in a run-rule win over South Dakota State.Â

A three-run home run three batters into the ballgame got Mizzou out to a strong start as the Tigers eventually led 7-0 through the first two innings of play.Â

The Jackrabbits' lone run of the game came with one out in the third as Jarecki smacked a solo home run. The Tigers hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame.Â

Mizzou pitcher Cierra Harrison improved to 5-4 on the season. She pitched five innings for the Tigers and gave up the lone run on four hits and three walks. SDSU's
Kierra Goos started the game for the Jacks in the circle while Herman eventually threw four innings in relief.

Gentry hit two singles and Conklin had one to round out the Jackrabbit lineup.Â

South Dakota State is 13-14 overall following Thursday's pair of games.

The Jackrabbits continue action at the Mizzou Invitational on Friday. SDSU is scheduled to take on Quinnipiac at 3 p.m.
