LINEUP SHOWS OUT IN VICTORY OVER QUINNIPIAC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – South Dakota State scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a run-rule 13-1 victory over Quinnipiac at Mizzou Softball Stadium on Friday.

The two sides had to sit through an over five hour delay due to inclement weather in the region in the middle of the third inning. By that time, SDSU had already made its mark in the contest.

The Jackrabbits took advantage of four walks drawn and three hits to jump ahead 7-0 in the top of the first. Brooke Dumont crushed a two-run home run, Amanda Vacanti hit a two-run single and Mia Jarecki plated three on a triple to highlight the frame at the plate for SDSU.

The Bobcats responded with one run in the first. Emma Vike hit an RBI single in the top of the second to push the advantage back to seven runs between the two sides.

South Dakota State scored another four runs in the top of the third. Akayla Barnard hit an RBI double, Dumont had a sacrifice fly and Jarecki blasted a two-run home run to make it 12-1.

SDSU and Quinnipiac then had to sit through a delay that brought the two teams back to the field just before 9 p.m.

The Jacks made quick work of the Bobcats.

Madi Mangulis relieved Barnard in the circle. Barnard gave up one hit and one run (none earned) in her two innings of work. Mangulis threw three shutout innings and gave up two hits while striking out four batters. She was credited with the victory and improved to 4-3 this season.

SDSU added a run to its tally in its five-inning victory in the fifth behind a sacrifice fly off the bat of Gentry.

The Jackrabbit lineup combined for 12 hits. Jarecki had a team-high three hits while Barnard, Dumont and Gentry each had two. Jarecki, Dumont and Gentry had three RBIs apiece while Jarecki scored three runs.

South Dakota State is now 14-14 overall.

The Jackrabbits continue action at the Mizzou Invitational on Saturday. South Dakota State is scheduled to face Michigan at 11 a.m. and Quinnipiac at 1:30 p.m.
