BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State University Athletics Department has elected to opt into the House v. NCAA settlement ahead of the June 30 deadline, announced SDSU Director of Athletics Justin Sell on Friday.  Â
Â
South Dakota State Athletics strives to continue pursuing excellence among peers at the conference and national levels. By opting in, Jackrabbit Athletics will have the opportunity to provide additional support for student-athletes while further enhancing their experience in the Yellow and Blue.Â
Â
Recent changes to the settlement allow a one-time opportunity for institutions to grandfather in members of team rosters, allowing current student-athletes an opportunity to remain on their respective teams for the remainder of their eligibility. In addition, the settlement offers Jackrabbit Athletics a variety of ways to increase funds to assist student-athletes in performing at a high level academically and athletically.Â
Â
"After a thorough review with our university regarding the recent changes made to the house settlement terms, we feel this is the right time to opt in," Sell said. "We have been fortunate to have tremendous academic and athletic success over the last decade, and this move positions us well for today and in the future. I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to provide additional resources to enhance our student-athletes' experience!"Â
Â
New scholarship rules and roster limits for NCAA Division I athletics begin with the start of the 2025-26 academic year.Â
