STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Behind a career performance in the circle from junior
Hailey Herman, along with 10 players combining to record a season-high 15 hits as a team, South Dakota State defeated Colgate 11-3 Saturday at Tarleton Softball Complex.

The Raiders scored a run in the bottom of second before the Jackrabbits responded with four in the top of the third.Â

Abby Gentry hit a leadoff home run to initially tie the score. Consecutive singles by
Bria Riebel and
Emma Vike then led to an
Akayla Barnard RBI double. Vike eventually scored on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Emma Christensen gave SDSU a 4-1 edge.Â

Herman continued to deal for the Jacks in the early going. She tallied six strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the first four innings.Â

South Dakota State added another four runs to its tally in the top of the fifth.
Ella Berlage hit a single and came around to score on an RBI double by Christensen.
Alli Boyle hit an RBI single, then
Kendall Daniel crushed a two-run home run to make it 8-1.Â

Colgate's lineup produced a solo home run in both the fifth and seventh innings, while the Jackrabbits scored another three runs in the seventh. That frame featured Boyle hitting an RBI double,
Kaylee Kardash drove in a Jackrabbit on a sacrifice fly and
Alivya Bollen was plated on a wild pitch.Â

NOTES
- South Dakota State improved to 8-3 on the season with the win. Colgate dropped to 3-5.
- Herman threw her first complete game of her college career to improve to 3-0 this season. She topped her previous inning best by 2 2/3 innings. Herman allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks. Her 10 strikeouts were the most by a Jackrabbit pitcher since the 2024 season.
- Every starter on the Jackrabbit lineup card recorded a hit. SDSU recorded 15 hits as a team for the first time since March of the 2025 season.
- Christensen went a team-best 3-for-3 at the plate. She scored a pair of runs and drove in a pair of RBIs. Vike, Riebel and Boyle each had multi-hit games.
