MURRAY, Ky. – South Dakota State softball completed a split of its pair of games on Friday at the Velvet Milkman Classic hosted by Murray State. The Jackrabbits beat Green Bay 16-7 in six innings to open the day, then fell to the host Racers by a 9-1 score in five innings.

Game One
South Dakota State responded from a 4-0 first-inning deficit to eventually earn a 16-7 win.Â

The Phoenix hit a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run to jump in front early.Â

SDSU responded with a five-run second inning.
Abby Gentry got the scoring started with a solo home run. Followed by an error that allowed
Alivya Bollen to score,
Emma Vike crushed a three-run home run to put the Jackrabbits in front 5-4. The next frame saw Vike hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-4.Â

The top of the fourth saw SDSU make it a 9-4 ballgame.
Cece Hanson was plated on an infield error, Gentry had an RBI groundout that scored
Ella Berlage, then Bollen hit an RBI single.Â

Green Bay made it 9-7 in the bottom of the inning thanks to a three-run home run.Â

The Jackrabbits shut the door on the meeting in the sixth after Berlage added an RBI single in the fifth. The sixth frame featured six runs scored by SDSU. Gentry

Kaylee Kardash each brought in Jacks via RBIs. Vike produced a two-home run game with an two-run homer in the sixth, while
Akayla Barnard add a solo bomb.Â

SDSU's
Tayler Baker was credited with the victory in the circle. She pitched four innings in relief. Baker allowed three runs (none earned) on two hits and a walk. She also struck out three batters.Â

Vike and
Amanda Vacanti had three hits apiece. Gentry and Bollen recorded two hits for the Jackrabbits. Bollen was also plated a team-high three times.

Vike registered six RBIs in the game. The RBI total is tied for the second most in a single game in program history with Tina Winter (2010) and Steph Kuhl (2006). Current Jackrabbit graduate assistant coach

South Dakota State's 16 runs were the most in a game this season as well as its 17 hits.

Game Two
Murray State flipped the script on South Dakota State in the Jackrabbits' second game of the day as the Jackrabbits fell 9-1 in five innings.Â

The Racers scored a pair of runs in the first and third innings, while they closed the meeting out with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.Â

Murray State accumulated 10 hits and drew six walks. Kynadee Warner went 3-for-3 in the Racer lineup. Murray State starting pitcher Bre Haislip was stellar in the start as she improved to 2-0 this season. Haislip gave up just one run on three hits and one walk.Â

SDSU's one run came in the second on an RBI single by Vacanti. She plated Riebel on the play.

South Dakota State finished the day 10-4 overall. The Jackrabbits continue action at the Velvet Milkman Classic on Saturday. The Jacks compete in a doubleheader as they rematch against Green Bay at 10 a.m. then face IU Indy at 12:30 p.m.
