SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Twenty-three student-athletes, 10 women and 13 men, earned All-Summit League honors for South Dakota State at the Outdoor Track and Field Summit League Championships last weekend.
To receive the All-Summit League accolade a student-athlete must finish in the top three in an event category at the league championship meet.
Ethan Fischer earns All-Summit League honors after posting a program record discus throw of 197-09 (60.27m) to win the event. The senior's performance is currently ranked sixth in the region and 12th in the nation, qualifying him for the NCAA West First Round in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas. Teammate Caymen Gebheim clutched All-Summit League honors in the discus as well after finishing runner-up with a mark of 190-01 (57.95m).
On the track, Lucas Flemmer earned All-Summit League honors in the 400-meter dash and the 4X400-meter relay. Flemmer won the 400-meter with a time of 46.89, only 0.09 off from his program record, before rounding out the night with bronze in the 4X400-meter with a combined time of 3:14.44. Competing with Flemmer in the 4X400 was Cael Woods, Joe Dustin and Brandon Kampsen.
Prior to Kampsen's performance in the 4X400-meter relay, the junior took gold in the 800-meter with a time of 1:49.80, earning All-Summit League honors in both events.
Cody Larson made the All-Summit League honors list in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000-meter. Larson posted a steeplechase time of 9:16.59 for third, and a 5000-meter time of 14:23.93 for runner-up.
Also making the All-Summit League team were Cashton Johnson (10,000), Will Lohr (5,000), Landen Matkins (4x100), Parker Peterson (4x100), Carter Toews (4x100) and Jake Werner (4x100).
On the women's side, Josie Curry finished runner-up in the hammer throw with a personal record of 187-07 (57.18m). Another thrower, Piper Eby, made All-Summit League honors alongside Curry at her first conference meet. The freshman threw 155' 11" (47.52m) to take silver in discus.
Ellie Harris made the All-Summit League list in both the 200-meter and the 4X100-meter with a third-place finish. Harris assisted the 4X100 team to a combined time of 45.53, before posting a 200-meter time of 23.71. Racing with Harris in the 4X100 was Silja Gunderson, Chloe Raw and Sian O'Sullivan.
The women's 4X400-meter relay team were the final Jackrabbits to make the All-Summit League Team. The relay squad finished third with a time of 3:44.03 and consisted of Jenna Johnson, Erika Kuntz, Reese Luze and Story Rasby.
