Mark Kubacki is in his first season as a member of the South Dakota State football coaching after joining the Jackrabbits as assistant defensive line coach in the summer of 2022.
Previously, Kubacki spent the last five season at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He helped the Oles improve their record from 2-8 (1-7 MIAC) in 2016 to 4-6 overall (3-5 MIAC) in 2017 to consecutive 5-5 seasons in 2018, 2019, 2021. After starting the 2018 season with five-straight wins, St. Olaf received its first vote in the D3football.com Top 25 since 2012.
In his five seasons at St. Olaf, Kubacki had coached eight honorable mention all-MIAC honorees and two second-team all-conference selections.
Prior to coming to St. Olaf, Kubacki spent the previous five seasons at the University of St. Thomas, where he coached on both sides of the ball. He mentored the Tommies' linebackers from 2012-13, the defensive line from 2014-15 and the tight ends in 2016. He helped St. Thomas reach the Division III national championship game (Stagg Bowl) and post 14-1 records in 2012 and 2015. During his tenure, Kubacki helped the Tommies achieve a cumulative 56-8 record. He coached nine all-MIAC players, two all-region performers, one All-America honoree and one Mike Stam Award winner (top MIAC lineman).
From 2009-2011, Kubacki served as linebackers coach at his alma mater, Stillwater Area High School, in Stillwater, Minnesota. While attending Stillwater High School, he helped lead the Ponies to a 19-5 record with back-to-back sectional championships and berths in the state playoffs. He was voted team captain and twice earned all-conference honors. Kubacki went on to play linebacker at the University of North Dakota from 2007-2008 before suffering a career-ending injury.
Kubacki graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, park and leisure, and earned a master’s degree in sports management in 2013 from Concordia University, St. Paul.
