Born in California and raised in Colorado, Ryan Johnson attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he wrestled for the Bears while completing a double degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Mathematics with an emphasis in Applied Statistics.
Upon graduation, Johnson began working for USA Wrestling in Colorado Springs as a national events coordinator. In this role he developed, organized and executed wrestling tournaments across the country, ranging from regional youth tournaments to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for wrestling.
In May of 2012 Johnson transitioned to the world of collegiate athletics as the director of marketing for athletics at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, where his duties included developing the student section at athletic events and organizing all of the game day activities for all home sporting events. In December of 2012, he completed his MBA from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a double emphasis in marketing and project management.
After a year and a half with the Wolverines, Johnson accepted the position of assistant athletic director of marketing and promotions at South Dakota State in November of 2013, where he now oversees the game day atmosphere at home athletic events, as well as serves as the advisor for the dance team, the cheer team and the Rabbit Den (SDSU’s student section at athletic events). He also works to increase the athletic departments visibility both on campus and in the community.
