John Newman joined the Jackrabbit softball staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2014 after spending four seasons as an assistant at Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., where he also worked from 2002-03.
After returning to the Monarchs in 2011, Newman coached a trio of All-USA South Conference pitchers and one USA South Freshman Pitcher of the Year selection.

During Newman’s first season with the Monarchs in 2003, the team established a new program record for wins in a season with 38 and finished as the runner-up in NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional. That team also finished 13th in the final NCAA Division III poll and featured six All-DIAC selections, six NCAA Division III All-Region selections and one NCAA Division III All-American.

Between his first stay and his current post at Methodist, Newman worked as an assistant coach at University of the Ozarks from 2006-09, and served as the director of Tiger Softball Camps Operations for the University of Missouri from 2009-10. He also worked as an assistant coach with St. Louis Community College-Meramec in 2009-10, when they finished second in region.
A native of Edgar Springs, Mo., and member of the of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Newman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general studies from Columbia College in 2011.
Newman and his wife, Tammy, an active duty U.S. Army captain, have three children; Casey, Sam and Courtney.
