SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Texas State scored touchdowns on its first four possessions of the game and never looked back in sending South Dakota State to its third straight defeat, 42-12, Saturday night.
With the win, the 16th-ranked Bobcats improved to 3-1. SDSU dropped to 2-3. The Jackrabbits will host UC Davis next Saturday (Oct. 8) in a game to be played at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
The Bobcats drove the length of the field after the opening kickoff, capping an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a four-yard TD run by K.R. Carpenter.
SDSU came back with an 18-yard Parker Douglass field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3. 
Texas State built the lead to 14-3 on the first of three touchdown runs by Nick Session. His first TD came from a yard out to end a five-play, 80-yard drive.
Douglass again answered with a 39-yard field goal to make the score 14-6, but Texas State scored twice in the second quarter to go up 28-6. Session's second touchdown was set up by an interception.
SDSU's lone touchdown came with 1:14 remaining in the first half as Cory Koenig scored on a 2-yard run. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
The Bobcats rolled up 364 yards rushing, led by quarterback Barrick Nealy's 121 yards on nine carries. He also scored on a 36-yard run in the third quarter. Nealy also connected on 10-of-15 passing attempts for 164 yards.  He was picked off once, by SDSU cornerback Hank McCall.
SDSU's ground attack was led by Koenig, who gained 121 yards on 26 carries. Starting quarterback Andy Kardoes was 9-of-18 passing for 122 yards and was intercepted three times.
Josh Davis led Jackrabbit receivers with 70 yards on three catches. Dusty Snyders caught three balls for eight yards.
Punter Neal Bainbridge was a bright spot for the Jackrabbits as he averaged 63.7 yards per punt, including a career-best 77-yarder.
Billy Ray Kirch led the Jackrabbit defense with 12 tackles.
The game was played before a Bobcat Stadium crowd of 12,781.
