MACOMB, ILL. -- South Dakota State pushed its win streak to seven in a row with a 7-6 victory over Western Illinois Friday at Alfred D. Boyer Field.
The Jacks are now 9-10 for the season and will play a doubleheader against WIU Saturday before finishing the series with a single game Sunday.
The Jacks scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Nick Adams, then took a 5-1 lead with a four-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by Kasey Keller.
Adams finished the day 3-for-4 and was the key player as the Jacks manufactured single runs in the seventh and ninth. In the seventh, Adams singled to right, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk. In the ninth, he beat out a bunt single, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
Jackrabbit starter Robby Apo picked up his first victory of the season, allowing three runs - two earned - over the first six innings, with seven strikeouts. Dalton Decker pitched one and two-thirds innings before Gary Olechoski came on to get the last out in the eight, when WIU left two runners on, and he earned his fourth save by getting out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth, when the Leathernecks scored on a bases loaded walk to pull within one run.
Ryan Wadsworth had four of WIUs 12 hits.
