IOWA CITY, Iowa ? South Dakota State grabbed an early lead over the host Hawkeyes at the Iowa Classic Friday in Iowa City, Iowa, but the Hawkeyes scored four unanswered runs to earn the 4-1 win over the Jackrabbits.
Senior Steph Kuhl led off the second inning with a single to center field before turning over the base running duties to Maggie Eilers.
Eilers stole second, and then scored three batters later on an Amanda Fedson single to put SDSU up 1-0.
Sami Baugh reached on an error to start the Hawkeye's half of the second, but Dani Broshar gunned down pinch runner Callie Adreon trying to steal second.
Iowa would plate one run in the second though, when Mindy Heidgerken doubled home Rachel West to tie the game at one.
The Hawkeyes put up a crooked number in the third, when Erin Riemersma hit a two-RBI double to left, giving Iowa a 3-1 lead.
They tacked on one more in the sixth to secure the 4-1 win.
SDSU sophomore Brooke Postma stole two bases in the loss to equal her total of 14 stolen bases in her freshman year. That makes 28 stolen bases in as many attempts in her career, tying her for fifth best in school history.
Jenna Marston went the distance for the Jacks, and took the loss.
SDSU returns to action at the Iowa Classic on Saturday, when the Jacks square off against Northern Illinois. The Huskies beat the Jackrabbits 4-3 on 2-10-07 at the UNI Dome Tournament.
First pitch from Iowa City is scheduled for 5 p.m.
