SIOUX CITY, Iowa ? South Dakota State pounded out 11 hits against UMKC in the first game of a double-header and came away with an 8-1 Game 1 Win, but the bats went silent in Game 2, and the Kangaroos capitalized with a 4-0 win.
UMKC came through with a run on two hits the top of the first inning of Game 1 to take the early 1-0 advantage over the Jackrabbits, but the lead did not last long.
Amanda Fedson opened the Jacks half of the first by getting hit by a pitch, Brooke Postma followed that up with a bunt single to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Samantha Heinzman reached on a fielder's choice in the next at bat, but Fedson was gunned down at third base.
Two batters later, Postma scored on an error, then Heinzman scored the go-ahead run on a Kiley Schwedhelm single, which put SDSU up 2-1.
Fedson came to the plate again in the second inning, and singled home Brittany Postma from second base to put the Jacks up 3-1.
Teresa Howell came to bat in the fourth inning and smacked a triple that scored Maggie Eilers, who was pinch running for Dani Broshar, to put SDSU on top 4-1.
Howell then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 SDSU lead.
Brooke Postma scored again in the fifth inning on a Steph Kuhl fielder's choice, which increased Kuhl's SDSU best RBI total to 124.
Schwedhelm singled home Heinzman later in the inning to give the Jacks a 7-1 lead.
Postma scored for the third time in the game in the sixth on a Heinzman RBI single, then Jenna Marston closed out her seventh win in the top of the seventh.
Brooke Postma went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Jacks, stole three bases and scored three runs.
Marston scattered five hits, struck out five and walked two to earn the win.

UMKC jumped right out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Ashley Toft led off the game with a triple to deep center field, then scored when Kylie Williamson singled in the next at bat.
Williamson scored later in the inning on a Taia Jones single.
The Kangaroos added single runs in the third and seventh innings to secure the win.
Samantha Hurst pitched a complete game one-hitter to earn the win, while Kim Westendorf took the loss for the Jackrabbits.
With the split, the Jacks have an 11-22 record heading into Friday's home opener with North Dakota State. First pitch from the new Jackrabbit Softball Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
