Every Jackrabbit scored at least one point and five scored in double figures, as South Dakota State rolled to an 86-65 win over Cal State-Bakersfield on Tuesday in Frost Arena, snapping a three game skid.
Anthony Cordova led the Jackrabbits, who improve to 5-7 with the win, with 16 points. Kai Williams came off the bench to score 14, Clint Sargent added 12 in a reserve role, while Garret Callahan scored 11 and Dale Moss ten.
Santwon Latunde led CSUB, who falls to 3-8 with the loss, with 16 points.
SDSU got more than half of its points off the bench, a total of 49 points, compared to 26 by the Roadrunners.
Michael Palarca scored the first three points for the Jackrabbits, Mark Engen scored the next two and the Jacks never looked back, steadily increasing their lead throughout the first half.
The Jacks turned a 10-0 run into a 17-2 run midway through the half before eventually taking a 49-24 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
SDSU increased its lead to as many as 33 points in the second half at 82-49 with 3:09 left to play before an 8-0 CSUB run cut the lead to 24 with just under two minutes on the clock.
The Jacks would get it back up to 27 points with under a minute to go, but a pair of late Roadrunner three-pointers cut the deficit to the final score of 86-65.
South Dakota State shot 55 percent in the first half on 17-of-31 shooting and held CSUB to just 33 percent on 10-of-30 shooting. Adding to that, the Jacks shot 42 percent from three-point range in the first half, making five of their 12 attempts, while the Runners missed all three of their shots from beyond the arc.
The Jacks cooled off a bit in the second half to shoot 43 percent on 13-of-30 shooting, but still shot 49 percent for the game. CSUB improved to shoot 45 percent in the second half on 14-of-31 shooting. They also made three of their nine three-point attempts. SDSU also made a trio of three-point field goals, but did it in three less attempts.
SDSU also won the rebounding battle 42-31 overall, 19-14 on the offensive glass.
The Jackrabbits look start a winning streak on Sunday, when they travel Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Northern Iowa. Tipoff from the McLeod Center is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
The Jackrabbit beat the Panthers 61-55 in the last meeting on Nov. 23, 2007 in Frost Arena and lead the all-time series with their former North Central Conference foe 52-33.
