ROCHESTER, Mich. - The South Dakota State University men's Swimming and Diving team finished up competition at the three-day Summit League Championships on Saturday on conclude their 2007-08 season.
Matt Josephson was one of two Jackrabbits to swim in final events Saturday. Josephson fought back after an eight place first lap to finish sixth in the 200-yard backstroke at 1 minute 57.55 seconds.
The other Jackrabbit in an individual final was
Blake Gipson who also finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The team of
John Bisson,
Chris Holzwarth, Mark Sadager and
Mark Garrigues were a half second from tying the SDSU record in the 400-yard freestyle relay finishing in 3:10.54.
The Jacks ended the championships by setting two new school records in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Saturday and in the 200-yard freestyle relay on Friday.
The Jackrabbits finished last with a total of 278 points. Oakland University won their ninth consecutive conference championship with 1,050 points, more than the second and third place teams combined. Centenary with 556 points was the runner-up while Western Illinois grabbed third with 461 points. Fourth place went to Eastern Illinois who finished with 443 points followed by IUPUI in fifth place and 359 points.
