CEDAR CITY, Utah ? Southern Utah pounded out eight hits and scored ten runs in the third inning to secure an 11-2 Summit League win over South Dakota State on Saturday in Cedar City, Utah.
The loss sends the Jackrabbits to 6-15 overall and 1-2 in Summit League play, while the Thunderbirds improve to 6-17 overall and 2-1 in league play.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Jacks came back to score two in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.
Brittany Postma got things started with a one-out single, and then stole second. Two batters later, Dani Broshar knocked her home with a double to left center field to tie the game at one.
Greta Stroh followed that up with a single down the left field line to bring Broshar home and give the Jacks a thier 2-1 lead.
Neither team scored in its next at bat, but the T-Birds more than made up for it, when they exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the third to put them on top 11-2, thus securing the game and series win.
Jenna Marston started the game in the circle for the Jacks, and took the loss.
SDSU returns to action on Monday, with a single game against BYU in Provo, Utah, at 2 p.m. MT.
