Freshman
Billy Stitz homered twice and
Craig Parry continued his hot hitting for South Dakota State in a 12-2 Jackrabbit baseball victory Tuesday afternoon over Dakota Wesleyan at Huether Field.
The Jackrabbits upped their record to 16-19 on the season, while DWU dropped to 17-19 overall.
SDSU scored first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning as Parry looped a single down the left field line to score
Korby Mintken.
DWU took a momentary 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run single by Jake Roy that drove in Zach Huston and Mark Wood.
The Jackrabbits tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a
Jesse Ayala sacrifice fly, then took the lead for good in the third inning on back-to-back home runs by Parry and Stitz. Parry's two-run blast was his third in two games and ninth of the season.
SDSU tacked on a run in the fifth inning as Parry tripled with one out and scored on
Nick Adams' infield single. The Jackrabbits put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning as Mintken and Stitz each hit three-run home runs ? the only hits of the frame.
Parry was 3-for-3, ending the game a double shy of the cycle as he drove in three runs and scored three times. Both of Stitz's hits were home runs as he upped his season total to eight round-trippers. Adams added two hits for the Jackrabbits, who out-hit the Tigers, 10-6.
Christian Larson pitched the first four innings to earn his first victory of the season, improving to 1-3. The senior right-hander allowed both runs, scattering three hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts.
Zach Weber struck out two in two scoreless innings, and
Matt Baerlocher added a hitless effort in the seventh ? and final ? inning of the game.
Zach Schmidt took the loss for DWU.
SDSU moves its homestand to Sioux Falls on Wednesday, hosting Minnesota in a night game at Sioux Falls Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
