South Dakota State University baseball coach
Reggie Christiansen has submitted his resignation and will return to his home state of California to become assistant coach at Sacramento State.
Assistant coach
Ritchie Price has been appointed to lead the Jackrabbits on an interim basis during the 2008-09 academic year, SDSU Director of Athletics Fred Oien announced.
A native of Ferndale, Calif., Christiansen compiled a 96-113 record in four seasons at SDSU as he led the Jackrabbits through the transition to Division I. The Jackrabbits increased their win total each of his first three seasons, improving from a 12-win campaign the season before he arrived to a 17-38 record in his first season, in 2005. SDSU posted a 23-29 record in 2006 and turned in a breakthrough season in 2007 with a 34-19 record and ended the season by winning the Division I Independent Tournament.
In 2008, SDSU joined The Summit League and finished fifth with a 9-11 mark in league play, 22-27 overall.
Two players Christiansen recruited and coached ?
Jake Rogers (2007, Washington Nationals) and
Craig Parry (2008, Pittsburgh Pirates) ? were drafted by Major League Baseball teams.
Price has been around a college baseball program nearly his entire life. The son of current Kansas head coach Ritch Price, the younger Price earned all-Big 12 honors at Kansas four times from 2003-06. After playing in the New York Mets organization for one year, he joined the SDSU baseball coaching staff for the 2008 season. He is currently serving as a coach for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the summer collegiate Cape Cod Baseball League.
