South Dakota State shot a season-high 61 percent from the floor and dished out a season-high 21 assists in a convincing 83-63 win over IUPUI on Saturday night in front of a season-high 3,505 fans in Frost Arena at the 17th Annual Lamb Bonanza.
The Jackrabbits went 32-of-52 from the floor and 12-of-22 from three-point range for a season-high 54 percent three-point shooting percentage en route to the win, which gives SDSU back-to-back wins in Summit League play for the first time ever and improves its record to 8-10 overall and an even 3-3 in league play.
The loss drops the Jaguars to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in The Summit League.
Garrett Callahan led four Jackrabbits in double figures with 23 points and added five rebounds and four assists in the win. Kai Williams scored 16 points despite playing just 18 minutes because of foul trouble.
Michael Palarca also played 18 minutes, and made the most of it with five points, four assists and an offensive rebound.
Anthony Cordova pitched in with 13 points and dished out a career-high five assists. Clint Sargent added 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting, all of them from beyond the arc.
Robert Glenn led IUPUI, who shot 49 percent from the floor on 27-fo-55 shooting, with 18 points in the loss, Gary Patterson added 17 and Alex Young ten.
IUPUI scored on its first position of the game on a Glenn layup, but Sargent answered with a three on the other end.
The teams exchanged baskets again one more time before the Jacks took the lead for good on a Cordova shot in the paint with just three and a half minutes gone in the game.
SDSU steadily built its lead from there, and used a 9-0 run that turned into a 12-2 run in the middle of the half to go up 31-16 with 4:55 left in the first half.
The Jacks would lead by as many as 19 points in the half before cut the lead 16 points at 41-25 at the break.
The Jaguars would get as close as 12 points on three occasions early in the second half, the last being 55-43 with 12:55 left, but the Jacks put the game away with a 17-2 run that put the SDSU up 72-45 with just over nine minutes left in the game.
That lead would grow to 30 points at 83-53 with 2:12 on the clock, but IUPUI ended the game on a 10-0 run to reach the final 83-63 margin.
The Jackrabbits take their first-ever Summit League winning streak on the road next week for games at UMKC on Thursday and at Southern Utah on Saturday.
The Jacks and Kangaroos tipoff at historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., at 7:05 p.m., in a game that can be seen live on television in the Kansas City area on Metro Sports.
SDSU and SUU tipoff at 7:30 p.m. MT on Saturday in Cedar City, Utah.
