Dover, Del. ? Needing only two wins for head coach
Jason Liles to take over as the all-time wins leader at South Dakota State, the Jackrabbit wrestling team took care of business notching victories over Virginia Military Institute (33-9) and Delaware State (31-15) at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del., Wednesday afternoon.
After dropping the first two weight classes, the Jacks notched eight-straight victories to overtake the Keydets for the win, which tied Liles with Warren Williamson, head coach from 1957-68 and 70-73, with 134 career victories.
Freshman
Dustin Walraven at 141 pounds and senior
Jason Stripling at heavyweight, each recorded pins to pace the Jacks in the opening match.
At 197 pounds,
Tyler Sorenson notched a technical fall in a 17-2 victory over Ronald Ellsworth for his first win of the season.
Weston Blasius added a 10-2, major decision in the 157-pound weight class over James Gordon.
In the second match of the day, Liles became the all-time winningest coach at SDSU with 135 victories.
Walraven and Stripling again paced the Jacks with each wrestler recording a pin over the Hornets. Walraven has won his last six matches and improves to 17-8 on the season while Stripling ups his record to 19-8.
Junior
Jeremy Swier, a late addition to the squad in 2008, recorded a 14-2, major decision in the victory.
In his 16th season at head coach for the Jacks, Liles' record currently stands at 135-102-3 as the Jacks improve to 3-3-1 in duals on the season.
SDSU returns to action Saturday, when they face Franklin & Marshall, Sacred Heart and American International in a quadrangular in Lancaster, Pa.
