ST. THOMAS, USVI - South Dakota State gave No. 7 Purdue all it could handle in the first round of the Paradise Jam on Friday, but the Jackrabbits fell into an early hole on Saturday against Boston College and eventually fell by the sore of 75-58.
"If you look at our guards, they played too many minutes last night. I don't know if Clint (Sargent) could have struggled anymore then he did early in terms of the mistakes that he made, just his shooting," said SDSU head coach Scott Nagy. "His legs were dead. Garrett's (Callahan) legs were dead. Those guys that played a lot of minutes last night really struggled tonight."
The loss drops the Jacks back to an even 2-2 on the season, while Boston College, who received votes in both major polls this week, improves to 3-1.
Anthony Cordova led the Jackrabbits with 18 points and with seven rebounds, Kai Williams added 11, while Garrett Callahan and Nate Wolters both scored 10 points in the loss.
Joe Trapani led the Eagles with a game-high 21 points, including a 5-for-6 effort from three-point range, two of them as time expired on the shot clock. Biko Paris added 16 points in the win, Corey Raji and Josh Southern both scored 12.
B.C. opened the game with a 6-0 run, and even after the Wolters scored four quick points for the Jacks to cut the deficit to two points, the Eagles answered with an 11-0 run the Jacks never really recovered from.
Boston College led by nine at 37-28 at halftime, but saw that lead fall to six when Williams opened the second half with a three-pointer from the wing, but Boston College quickly built its lead back to 13 points and never looked back.
The Jacks get Sunday off before playing their final game of the Paradise Jam on Monday, when they square off against East Carolina at 2 p.m. AT, noon CT.
