TULSA, Okla. ? Creighton scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to spoil the South Dakota State softball team's first game of the Tulsa Select Festival on Friday in Tulsa, Okla., but the Jackrabbits bounced back to beat St. Louis in the afternoon.
The Bluejays 4-3 win boosted their record to 4-2, while the Jacks fell to 1-9, but only for a short time, as SDSU rebounded with a 7-6 win over the St. Louis Billikens to snap a nine-game losing streak and improve to 2-9.
Jenna Marston started and took the loss against Creighton but came on in relief to get the win against St. Louis, which improved her record to 1-5.
Creighton 4, SDSU 3 Creighton score first with a run in the second, but SDSU came back in the fourth with a a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Jacks made it 3-1 in the fifth when a Durazo groundout to second with one out and the bases loaded, which scored Stacey Evans from third.
The Bluejays plated one in the fifth to get within one at 3-2 and then capitalized on an error for a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to extend the Jacks losing streak to nine.
Broshar led the Jackrabbit offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI. Brooke Postma also finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored.
SDSU 7, St. Louis 6 The Jackrabbits pounded out 12 hits, including two triples from Brittany Postma, as SDSU held off a late St. Louis rally to beat the Billikens 7-6.
Postma went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored; Ashley Durazo went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.
Down 2-0 to start their half of the third, the Jacks erupted for five runs on five hits to take a 5-2 lead.
Durazo came up next and smacked a double to the gap in right center to score the Postma's and put the Jacks on top 3-2.
Kelsey Lunn and Dani Broshar both drew walks to reload the bases for Morgan McCabe, who hit a two-out single to right field that scored Durazo and Lunn for a 5-2 SDSU lead.
The Billikens got one back in the top of the fourth, but Brittany Postma opened the bottom half of the inning with a triple and then scored on a Brooke Postma single.
Down 6-3 entering the sixth inning, St. Louis used three hits and one Jackrabbit error to score three runs and tie the game at 6-all going into the seventh.
Brittany Postma again opened the inning with a triple and scored two batters later on a Durazo single.
St. Louis advanced its leadoff batter of the seventh to third, but Marston fought through the threat to preserve her first win of the season and the Jacks first win since the first game of the season.
The Jacks play one more game on Friday against the host Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the tournament against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at 2 p.m.
