Tony Martin knocked in the winning the run in the top of the eighth inning, lifting the South Dakota State University baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Murray State and a split of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
The Jackrabbits, who dropped the opener of the twinbill, 5-3, ended their season-opening series with a 1-2 record. Murray State finished the three-game set with a 2-1 mark.

Beau Hanowski walked to lead off the eighth inning. Pinch-hitter
Jeff Fish advanced Hanowski into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Martin followed with a single to right field to drive in Hanowski with the game-winner.
Kirby Morsching worked around two Jackrabbit errors and a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the eighth to secure SDSU's first victory of the season. A senior right-hander from Rapid City, Morsching pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. He allowed one run, walked two and allowed four hits.

Isaac Johnson worked the first 3 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking one while giving up the other Murray State run.
SDSU took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Joel Blake led off the frame with a double, advanced to third and scored on a groundout by Martin.
Jesse Sawyer followed with a home run to right center, his first career round-tripper as a Jackrabbit.
The Thoroughbreds tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Blake had two of SDSU's six hits. Wes Cunningham delivered two hits for Murray State, including the game-tying hit in the fifth inning.
In the opener, the Jackrabbits out-hit Murray State, 14-6, but came up on the short end of the scoreboard, 5-3.
Martin was 5-for-5 with a triple for the Jackrabbits, who stranded 11 runners in the contest.
SDSU led 2-1 after the top of the fourth, scoring two runs in the inning.
Stephen Turner plated the first run with an RBI groundout,and the second run scored when Sawyer's groundball to shortstop was booted.
The ?Breds took the lead for good in the home half of the fourth inning, scoring twice without the benefit of a hit. The first run scored on a groundout, with the go-ahead run crossing on a wild pitch. MSU tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Jackrabbits threatened in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out. However, Hanowski lined into a double play, shortstop to second base, to end the game.
Layne Somsen took the loss for the Jackrabbits in his collegiate debut. The Yankton native allowed four runs in five innings, giving up four hits and two walks, while striking out three.
Blaine Alberta pitched the final three innings, recording three strikeouts.
Murray State starter Daniel Calhoun was credited with the victory. He scattered nine hits in six innings, striking out six. Allen Lucas pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the save.
SDSU returns to action Feb. 27-March 1 with a three-game series at Central Arkansas.
