LINCOLN, Neb. ? The South Dakota State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Lincoln, Neb., to Nebraska, both by the same score of 8-0, both in five innings.
The losses snap the Jackrabbit three game winning streak and send them into Friday's game against Southern Utah with a 6-22 record. Nebraska improves to 22-6 with the sweep.
After sitting the Jacks down in order in the first game, the Huskers put up four runs on three hits, two walks and a past ball in the home half of the first to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
They added three more in the third on four hits and one Jackrabbit error to go up 7-0 and then added one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Jenna Marston officially pitched four innings, as she did not record an out in the bottom of the fifth, and takes the loss. Brooke Postma and Dani Broshar both went 1-for-2 in the loss, with Broshar's hit being a double to start the second inning.
Things went from bad to worse for SDSU in the second game of the day, as the Jacks could only muster one hit in the loss, a Postma single in the fourth.
The Huskers, on the other hand, picked up right where they left off, scoring two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third before Alex Hupp ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run, walk-off homer that put Nebraska up 8-0.
Pam Nicholson also finished with four innings pitched in taking the loss, for the Jacks, who return to action on Friday against Southern Utah.
Due to weather concerns and field conditions, that game may be moved south. Continue to check GoJacks.com for the latest updates on the series.
