TEMPE, Ariz. ? The South Dakota State softball team dropped its second in three game series at Arizona State on Saturday, this time the defending national champion Arizona State Sun Devils won by the score of 14-2.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 3-14 heading into Sunday's series finale in Tempe, Ariz. ASU improves to 20-4 with the win.
The Sun Devils plated seven runs on seven hits in the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead, but the Jacks got two of those runs back in the top of the third.
Morgan McCabe drew a walk to start the inning, which brought up Krystal Higgerson, who doubled down the left field line to advance Sam Przybelski, who was pinch running for McCabe, to third base with no outs.
Two batters later, Brooke Postma hit a single that score Przybelskiand advanced Higgerson to third. That brought up Ashley Durazo, who singled through the left side to score Higgerson, which got the Jacks to within 7-2 before the inning ended on consecutive strikeouts.
Arizona State came back with seven more runs in bottom of the fourth to seal the win.
Postma and Durazo both finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Jacks. Pam Nicholson pitched all four innings, striking out four and walking six, and took the loss.
The Jacks return to action on Sunday, when they wrap-up the series with Arizona State at 1 p.m. MT.
