By winning three of four games in the series, Centenary improved 20-5 overall, 3-1 in league play. The Jackrabbits dropped to 5-17 overall, 1-3 in The Summit League.
The Gents built a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Tell Ross led off the inning with a home run to right field off Kirby Morsching, who was making his first start of the season for the Jackrabbits. Jeff Schaffert delievered a two-run, two-out single later in the inning.
SDSU got on the board in the sixth with a pair of unearned runs. After Tony Martin reached on an error with two outs, Stephen Turner tripled down the right-field line to drive in Martin. Turner later scored on a base hit by Zach Briggs.
Centenary scored what proved to be the decisive runs in the bottom of the seventh. Schaffert doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Ricky Imperiali's opposite-field double. A base hit by Michael Tompkins plated Imperiali to make the score 5-2.
The Jackrabbits got a run back in the eighth inning as Jesse Sawyer was hit by a pitch and Tony Martin walked to open the frame. Turner then greeted reliever Derek Dalzell with a base hit to drive in Sawyer. The SDSU rally was thwarted, however, as Martin was thrown out trying to steal third and Dalzell struck out the next two Jackrabbit hitters.
SDSU put together another rally in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, John Lee was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a groundout. With two outs, Joel Blake singled to left field to drive in Lee. Sawyer then grounded out to end the game.
Centenary held a 12-8 advantage in hits, led by Ross' 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Turner led SDSU with a 3-for-3 day, while Blake added two of the Jackrabbits' eight hits.
Morsching took the loos for the Jackrabbits, pitching the first 6 2/3 innings. The senior right-hander struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Stephen Tromblee earned the victory for Centenary after pitching the first seven innings. The southpaw scattered six hits, struck out four and walked two. Dalzell earned his second save of the series and the season, striking out two in two innings.
