ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat South Dakota State, 7-5, Sunday afternoon and earn a split of a four-game Summit League baseball series.
The Golden Grizzlies improved to 7-22 overall and 2-6 in league play. SDSU dropped to 20-11 on the season, including 6-2 in The Summit League.
The Jackrabbits scored in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by John Lee that scored Billy Stitz, who led off the game with a walk.
Oakland tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the second inning and took its first lead on a Tommy Jablonski run-scoring single in the third.

The see-saw affair continued in the sixth inning, with SDSU taking a 5-3 lead as the top of the Jackrabbit lineup again came through. Stitz doubled for the second consecutive inning to plate Zach Briggs and Daniel Telford, and Joel Blake delivered a sacrifice fly two batters later.
Oakland countered with the decisive rally against the Jackrabbit bullpen in the bottom of the sixth. Dan Gliot doubled in the first run of the inning to chase Alex Oberle from the game. Ryan Waldhart tied the game with an RBI single off reliever Mike Robinson and Jablonski gave the Golden Grizzlies the lead for good with his third run-scoring single of the game. The final run of the inning scored on a groundout.
The Golden Grizzly bullpen pitched four shutout innings, including 2 1/3 innings from winning pitcher Kasey Kearcher. Mark Leichtman pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save of the season.
SDSU put the tying run on base with two outs in the ninth inning before Eric Cain lined out to left field to end the game.
Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision. OU's Matt LaMothe struck out nine, but walked seven, in five innings of work. Jackrabbit starter Shane Kraemer fanned six batters and walked two in 4 2/3 innings.
Oberle took the loss for SDSU, falling to 5-2 on the season.
