The South Dakota State women's soccer team looks to keep the ball rolling as they return to Fishback Soccer Park Friday to host Northern Iowa.
SDSU enters the weekend with a 3-1-2 record on the season and are 3-0-1 in their last four games. The Jacks found a scoreless tie in double overtime against Wisconisn and a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay last week.
“It's great to be back home after two long road trips. We are very excited to take on two tough teams in Northern Iowa and Eastern Washington,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “Both teams have good coaches and will present different challenges than what we have faced so far. It promises to be an exciting weekend of soccer.”
Kaitlin Justice leads the Jackrabbits with 19 shots on the season, including six on-goal. Danni Healy is first on the team with five points and two goals scored, including one game-winner. Elisa Stamatakis has recorded shutouts in three of the four games she's played in the net for the Jacks. Stamatakis has allowed only two goals and recorded 14 saves on the season for a save percentage of 0.875.
This week's competition
Northern Iowa Panthers – Northern Iowa enters the weekend with an 0-6 record on the season. Chelsie Hochstedler scored two of the three Panther goals this season and leads UNI with 11 shots, including six on-goal. Morgan Olsen is the only other Panther to score a goal this season.
In the net, Lauren Potzman and Erin Zaideman have split the starting postion, each with an 0-3 record. Potzman has allowed seven goals this season with 17 saves, while Saideman has allowed 14 goals and recorded 12 saves.
Eastern Washington Eagles – Eastern Washington holds an 0-4-1 record on the season. Whitney Brannan, a starter in all five of the Eagles' games this season, leads the team in points. She has tallied four points on two goals. The first goal came against California State Bakersfield Aug. 27, while the second was tallied against Seattle Sept. 3.
Lisa Dimak and Jamie Walker are splitting time in the net. Dimak has allowed three goals for a 1.65 goal-against average. She has also reeled in 17 saves for a .850 save percentage. Walker has allowed 10 goals on the season for a 2.68 goal-against average and has 22 saves for a .688 save percentage.
Jacks in the top-five – Senior Kayla Braffet makes her way up the career assists all-time top-five list for SDSU. Braffet started the season in sixth place and currently sits in a tie for third with 11 career assists. Senior Kaitlin Justice is currently in fourth place all-time in game-winning goals with seven on her career.
Healy Earns Weekly League Honor – Senior Danni Healy captured her first career Summit League Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 7 after leading the Jackrabbits to a pair of wins over Nevada and Montana.
The Edina, Minn. native recorded the game-winner in the 3-0 shutout over Montana and tallied an assist on Kaitlin Justice's goal in the second period. Healy gave the Jacks a 2-0 lead in the 3-2 double overtime victory over Nevada. She recorded five points on two goals and an assist for the week.
