LINCOLN, Neb. - Griffan Callahan scored in double figures for a fourth straight game and set career-highs with 25 points and seven three-pointers, but it all came in a losing cause, as South Dakota State fell to the host Huskers by the score of 76-64 on Saturday at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The Jackrabbits fall to 4-3 after their sixth of eight straight games away from home. Nebraska improves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 on its home court.
The first half saw four ties and four lead changes, with the Jacks leading by as many as three points early in the half, but Nebraska used a pair of 9-2 spurts to take a seven point, 35-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Nebraska extended that lead to as many as 12 points in the second half before a Zach Horstman dunk, a Taévaunn Prince put-back and a Callahan three cut the lead to five at 50-45 with 9:35 to play, but Nebraska never let the Jacks get any closer the rest of the game.
Along with his career-high 25 points, Callahan also led the Jacks with seven rebounds. Nate Wolters added 19 points, 13 of which came from the free throw line, as he went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe, missing just his final attempt. He also dished out eight assists. Prince finished with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
Bo Spencer led four Cornhuskers in double figures with 18 points. Brandon Ubel, Toney McCray and Dylan Talley all scored 12 points in the win.
The Jackrabbits close the season-long eight game road trip, and open Summit League play, next weekend with games at IUPUI on Thursday and at Western Illinois on Saturday. Both games begin at 7 p.m. local time.
